iodine enriched salt

What's iodine?

Iodine is a mineral that contributes to the development and functioning of the thyroid gland. It plays an important role in regulating the body's energy production; it promotes growth and development, stimulating basal metabolism and helping the body to burn excess fat. Mental acuity, speech, the condition of hair, nails, skin and teeth depend on the good functioning of the thyroid gland. The human body normally contains between 20 and 50 mg.

Where is it?

All types of marine fauna and vegetation absorb iodine from seawater and are excellent sources of this mineral. In particular, deep-sea fish, kelp seaweed, garlic, beans, sesame seeds, soy beans, spinach, chard, white zucchini and turnip greens are good sources. To a lesser extent, iodine is found in eggs, dairy products, cereals and meat. However, the amount taken with food is not sufficient to guarantee an adequate daily intake.

What are the recommended doses ?

The iodized salt should be used like normal table salt and in the same quantities. The recommended daily iodine intake is 150 micrograms for adults, 175 micrograms for pregnant women and 200 micrograms for nursing women. Always remember that eating salt is harmful to health and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Who can use iodized salt?

Everyone can use iodized salt. The amount of iodine you take with salt is physiological. Iodised salt is not a medicine but a natural complement to the diet.

How is it preserved?

The iodized salt is white and does not alter the taste of the food. It is kept away from light and humidity just like ordinary table salt.

How do you recognize him and where is he?

All points of sale must display the Ministry of Health's information poster on the iodised salt shelves. In addition, Ministry approved logos may appear on the packaging of iodised salt and products containing it as an ingredient.
